Travis Olson, CPA
Hawkins Ash CPAs has a new Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in the firm’s La Crosse, Wis., office.
Associate Travis Olson recently achieved his CPA designation from the State of Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services. To qualify, he had to pass a rigorous, four-part written exam, have a four-year college degree and demonstrate at least a year of experience in public or private accounting.
“My biggest career accomplishment to date is becoming a CPA,” said Olson. “It took a lot of hard work, time and sacrifice, but I am proud to be a part of a professional organization that people recognize and trust.”
Olson originally joined Hawkins Ash CPAs as an audit and tax intern in 2019. Now a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and associate in the firm’s La Crosse, WI, office he focuses on both audit and tax engagements.
For various privately held business clients in the Wisconsin and Minnesota region, Olson is a contact for employee benefit plans and helps audit defined contribution plans. He also helps audit municipalities, public schools, housing authorities, nonprofits and for-profit (commercial) organizations. In addition, Travis helps to prepare the financial statements and reports for each type of organization.
In the tax area, he mainly helps to prepare individual (1040) and 990 tax returns.
“I enjoy learning about tax because of its importance to society,” he said. “Tax affects everyone, so there is no shortage of opportunities to help both people and businesses navigate the complexities of the Internal Revenue Code. I get the most satisfaction answering questions that clients have about their tax situations.”
In addition to becoming a CPA, Olson earned an Associate’s degree in law enforcement and criminal justice from Western Technical College, as well as a Bachelor of Science in accounting and mathematics from the University of Wisconsin La Crosse.
He also is a member of the Wisconsin Institute of Certified Public Accountants (WICPA).
