QuickBooks Desktop and Online are very different products.  QuickBooks Online is not a copy of QuickBooks Desktop that is accessed over the internet.  They are different products with different database structures, different looks and different capabilities.
QuickBooks Pro Desktop
This version is installed directly on your computer. It has more features and capabilities than the Online version.  Desktop has superior features that include job-costing, batch invoicing, budgeting, inventory, and reporting.
QuickBooks Online
This version is cloud-based, and you can access your company file from a variety of devices on which you have an Internet connection.  This version may be preferable for a company with basic needs that wants to access data from anywhere.
Hosted
This is actually the QuickBooks Desktop version that is accessible via the Internet.  QuickBooks software and data files are installed, stored, accessed, and run on a hosting provider’s servers rather than one’s own computer. Users connect via the Internet to the service provider’s systems to access and run their licensed QuickBooks software and data files.
Hosted and Online speeds are dependent on your Internet provider’s service.
